Russians Bury and Start Mercedes-Benz G-Class Underground, Car Becomes a Bunker

While it's no secret that Russian drivers fully appreciate the military roots of the Mercedes-Benz G-Class, a recent "art" project seems to have taken the Gelandewagen's offroading abilities one step too far.

As you can see in the image gallery, a G-Wagon was turned into an underground bunker - the Mercedes was buried in a wood-covered hole one simply can't help but associate with a grave, with only the sunroof being left uncovered.

The project, whose sketch you can see in these photos, saw the area around the G-Class being covered in grass, with the artist even insisting on a bush being brought to the location.

Nevertheless, we're dealing with an installation here, so the hole accommodating the offroader was provided with fresh air, while the side exhaust of the machine was inserted into a tube, leading outside the... well... bunker.

As such, those willing to enter the car could start the engine, turn on the audio system and do whatever activities people who enjoy such forms of art do.

While the project talked about a G500, the car seen here was obviously tuned, with the custom bits being there to trick one into believing this is a G63 AMG. With such customization trickeries being popular all over the world, we expect the move to be unrelated to the bunker story, though.

If you Russian translation is accurate, the artist, whose name is Valeri Lizunova, explained the idea came to him while he was riding in a Gelandewagen. The man said he felt safe, so he wanted to up the ante on this front by turning the car into a safe place.

The stunt is part of an art festival that's currently being held in Russia's Kaluga Region - hoepefully, the car will return to its on-the-ground state once it gets a much-needed detailing.
