Russian-Spec Nissan Sentra Sedan Revealed in Moscow

It seems that American-flavored Japanese sedans are big business in Russia, offering the perfect blend of affordable features and lots of cabin space. After the RU-spec Toyota Camry facelift, we bring you yet another Moscow Motor Show debut, a Nissan to be more precise.

Although its sister car, the Almera, has been sold in Russia, the Sentra has never been marketed there. In order to appeal to consumers' pride, the new sedan will be marketed as "especially for Russia". However, it's the same car that's been on sale in the United States and Japan (sold as Sunny) since 2012.

One major difference between this and the US-spec sedan is that the 1.6-liter engine's power rating has been increased from 109 hp to 117 hp. Russian buyers will be offered a choice of either five-speed manual gearbox or an automatic. The press release doesn't actually say if this is a cheap automatic or the same Xtronic CVT they use on the US-spec car.

With a manual, Nissan says the RU-spec sedan will do 0 to 100 km/h in 10.6 seconds and 192 km/h, while the auto is slightly slower at 11.3 seconds and 184 km/h.

Production will be localized, taking place at the IzhAuto factory in Izhevsk, the capital of the Udmurt Republic located in the Urals. Adaptations made for the local market include an increase of the ground clearance to 155mm, a battery that can cope with colder winter starts and heated front seats and mirrors.

Even the basic model will come as standard with fog lights, 16-inch wheels, two airbags, ABS, ESP and power steering. Options will include the Nissan Connect 2.0 touchscreen infotainment system and larger alloys. You can also order Xenons, keyless and dual-zone climate control as part of a package. Pricing will be announced at the end of next month, with sales to start in November.
