Russian-Spec 2014 Renault Sandero Stepway Looks Funky

Because the Clio just wasn't super and mini enough, Renault Russia has decided to also sell a car from its cheaper brand Dacia. That's right, we're talking about the Sandero, a new version of which has just launched yesterday at the Moscow Motor Show.

There can be no doubt that an affordable car like this one will have a major impact on the Russian market in the following years, which is why we're going to take a closer look. Like the Logan sedan, Renault has transformed the front bumper and grille, adding large chrome surrounds. We've seen this look on a Brazilian Sandero a few months ago, but the Renault Sandero Stepway has never been shown before Moscow. We find its redesign refreshingly interesting and somewhat similar to the Citroen C4 Cactus.

Both cars have been engineered to cope with Russian road conditions and will enter production this September. The AVTOVAZ’s second plant in Togliatti is where they will be put together, the same place as the Logan. Russian-spec Sanderos come with 155 mm (6.1 inches) of ground clearance, while the Stepway boosts that even further to 195 mm (7.7 inches).

Prices will start at 380,000 rubles for te base Sandero with a 1.2-liter engine rated at 75 PS and pared to a five-speed manual. A 1.6-liter with 102 PS will also be offered, together with either the same manual or a four-speed auto.

The second-generation Sandero and Sandero Stepway models were launched in 2012 at the Paris Motor Show, proving to be very popular with European customers. Tech improvements over the previous generation include the availability of rear parking sensors, the first turbo petrol engine and an affordable infotainment screen.
