Ruby, Gold Model Car Fetches $146,000 at Auction [Photo Gallery]
Shocked? Well yeah, it’s a lot for just a “toy” that sits on the shelf and does nothing, but you’d better grab a chair before reading more from this article. We have no idea whether this is the most expensive model car ever auctioned or not, but we’re certain it’s the most exorbitant we’ve even seen.
The dragster depicted above, which looks like that because it’s made out of rubies, onyx and vermeil (including gold and sterling silver), was sold for an amazing $146,000 at the recent Bonham’s spring auction. And while this means a real life 2013 Porsche 911 Turbo, you should know that the model fell short of its estimated $200,000 price.
In case you’re wondering if this miniature replicates a certain vehicle, the accurately-shaped drag strip runner is the famous Greer-Black-Prudhomme Dragster. Built in the early 1960s and driven by Don “The Snake” Prudhomme, the dragster achieved several NHRA records.
