Rolls-Royce representatives have contacted us regarding a story based on a rumor. With their reply, we now have a further confirmation on the moment when the company will stop building the ongoing generation of the Phantom.
We already knew that Rolls-Royce decided to stop building the current generation of the Phantom by the end of this year. The company already confirmed it would not replace the Phantom Coupe and Drophead Coupe, so only the sedan version of the British model will receive a successor.

Its replacement will arrive in 2018, which will mean that 2017 will not have any new Phantoms manufactured by the company, and that there is no possibility of this decision being changed.

It has been made clear to us that the brand has set a firm decision regarding the date when the Phantom’s manufacturing line will be closed.

Andrew Boyle, the Head of Global Product Communications for Rolls-Royce, has explained to us that the company’s position on closing the Phantom line by December 31, 2016, is unchanged. With this confirmation from the British brand, all we can do is wait for the next Phantom to be released.

The 2018 Phantom will be the eighth generation of this model, and it will feature an all-new aluminum architecture. The automaker is engaged in the process of developing the car, and we already presented spyshots of the next Phantom.

Future Rolls-Royce models will also use the platform introduced on the next Phantom, so the new generation is paramount for the brand.

Rolls-Royce describes the Mk 8 Phantom as the “Best Car in the World,” and the company is not shy about this kind of statement. As the CEO of Rolls-Royce Motor Cars has previously stated, the next generation of the Phantom will be “a contemporary and beautiful Phantom befitting the role as the flagship of global luxury.
