Rolls-Royce Phantom Drophead Coupe Waterspeed Collection Makes NA Debut At Pebble Beach

Rolls-Royce first introduced its Phantom Drophead Coupe Waterspeed Collection back in May, but this celebratory version of the Phantom Drophead Coupe finally made its North American debut today. Only 35 of these bespoke Rolls-Royce convertibles are being made, and one will be on display this weekend at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance.

These cars were created to commemorate the water speed record that Sir Malcolm Campbell set back in 1937 in a Rolls-Royce-powered boat. He initially set a record of 126.33 mph on Lake Maggiore in a Bluebird K3 boat, and the very next day he went out and broke his own record with a speed of 129.5 mph.

Sir Malcolm Campbell’s successful pursuit of world-speed records on land and water were the result of his commitment to the most exacting standards of British design and engineering excellence. Such attributes are hallmarks of every Rolls-Royce motor car. This special Collection serves to display the breadth of Bespoke personalization available to every Rolls-Royce customer. We are thrilled to celebrate excellence in automotive design and showcase the Collection at the crown jewel of automotive events here at Pebble Beach,” said Torsten Müller-Ötvös, Chief Executive Officer, Rolls-Royce Motor Cars.

To create the Waterspeed Collection, Rolls-Royce gave the Phantom Drophead Coupe a distinctive, boat-themed appearance inspired by the Bluebird company. This includes that company’s signature Maggiore Blue paint scheme, and this bright blue hue carries over onto the engine trim, wheels and steering wheel, which are all firsts for Rolls-Royce. Inside, this Phantom Drophead Coupe was designed to look like the cabin of a boat is fitted with plenty of high-quality leather and brushed steel.

The Rolls-Royce Phantom Drophead Coupe Waterspeed Collection debuted today at The Quail, A Motorsports Gathering Event, and it will be on display this Sunday at the concept car lawn at Pebble Beach.
