Europe must be some sort of paradise for Chinese car manufacturer who are considering seeking new ways to expand their product offerings and launch cars in the Old Continent. This time SAIC, the well-known Chinese manufacturer who has been linked with a number of European acquisitions, will debut the Roewe brand in Poland. The debut will take place in 2010, with distribution to be handled by Pol-Mot Holding.

However, in order to comply with European regulations, Chinese models must pass a series of tests but, according to gasgoo.com, this is only a matter of time. Two models, internally known as 550 and 750, are in the process of snatching the official go-ahead to be sold in Europe.

According to the aforementioned source, the two models are currently quite attractive for Chinese buyers, as they are both equipped with top-notch safety features, above the competition. Pricing for the 550 models will start at 60000 PLN (this is around 21,000 US dollars). Engine lineup will most likely include a 1.8T gasoline engine developing 160 horsepower, but a turbo unit might be offered as well, with maximum output going around 133 horsepower.

In the meantime, BAIC is also looking at ways to start production in Europe. A new plant in Lithuania is currently in talks, country officials revealed in August.

"Beijing Automotive Industry Holding hopes to enter the European market both in terms of logistics and production and trade,"
said, according to gasgoo.com, Daumantas Lapinskas, an aide to Lithuanian Economy Minister Dainius Kreivys. "The company sees Lithuania as a potential partner and will explore the market."
