Even though General Motors is better at making trucks, crossovers, and SUVs, the biggest of the Big Three in Detroit has set its sights on the oft-ignored compact segment. And boy does the 2016 Chevrolet Cruze has the makings of a winner.
In a short but informative video, Jabari Jones of Autotrader shares with us five reasons to buy the 2016 Chevrolet Cruze. Mind you, this clip should have been released last year, not during the third quarter of 2016. Heck, the model year 2017 is knocking on the doorstep. But then again, there’s a little catch.

And that catch is, this period of the year is when dealers are willing to bargain with prospective customers. More than that, the 2016 Chevrolet Cruze starts from $16,620 (delivery not included). The MY 2017, on the other hand, retails from $16,975. It’s not a biggie, but these things matter in this segment.

Having said that, let’s focus our attention back to Autotrader. The first reason to go for the Cruze is the on-board space. Jabari believes that the Cruze actually feels more mid-size than compact thanks to the ample space the driver and passenger get. The 14.8 cuFT trunk is another high point.

Secondly, the 2016 Chevrolet Cruze gets lots of standard equipment, including alloy wheels and a rearview camera. LT and Premier models are even fancier, although things can get pretty expensive if you start ticking too many boxes from the list. The third and fourth reason are value for money and mileage. Jabari gives a good explanation regarding this matter: “Even the LS Automatic starts under $20,000.” He also mentions that mileage isn’t bad either.

By “isn’t bad either,” the man refers to 42 miles per gallon on the highway. The 2017 Chevrolet Cruze Hatchback, however, will do much better than that because General Motors will gift it with a turbo diesel powerplant. Not much is known about it right now, but hearsay suggests that it is a 1.6-liter CDTI unit that can return up to 3.7 l/100 km (63.5 mpg) in the Opel Astra.

And finally, the fifth reason to buy the 2016 Chevrolet Cruze compact-sized sedan is that it is “ready for the road.” Regardless of engine option, Autotrader highlights that the Cruze is economical without sacrificing performance. Jabari also said something about the “excellent ride quality,” which is very high praise in the Corolla’s and Civic’s turf.
