Thinking about getting a Crown Victoria Police interceptor, slapping a supercharger to it and turning it into the coolest sleeper ever sounds a bit like a fetish because, well... it is. This is exactly what a guy from New Jersey did with the man now willing to talk about his car. And boy does he have a story for us.
It all started a few years ago, when he purchased a retired 2003 Ford Crown Victoria. Like most law-enforcing Crown Vics, the technical side of the car was identical to what the civilian cars had to offer. This means the sedan packed a stock, naturally-aspirated 4.6-liter SOHC (single overhead cam) V8, not exactly a recipe for a fast car. Think under 200 RWHP.

As the man explains on Reddit, he’s always been a fan on the 2003-2004 Mustang Cobra, but he didn’t want to “take the easy route” and get an engine from one of these. Instead, he went for the deepest meaning of “built, not bought”.

“I bought a built shortblock from a performance modular engine builder which should easily handle making upwards of 1100 crankshaft horsepower. This engine block has Manley rods, Diamond low compression pistons, a forged Cobra crankshaft, ARP bolts, the engine is blueprinted and balanced. I went to ford and talked my way into a well-priced complete set of 2004 Mustang Cobra 4v cylinder heads, and then I hit the ford mustang forums for an 04 cobra supercharger, and pieced together everything else required to build the long block, and build it I did,” the Garden State man said.

One blown rear diff later, the car was fitted with a complete rear axle assembly taken from a 2008 Crown VIctoria, which was custom built with a Detroit TruTrac differential and a 3.73 final gear.

During all this time, the car has used the original four-speed automatic tranny, which eventually decided to give up. The man recently purchased a t56 six speed manual transmission out of his favorite ’03-’04 Cobra Mustang and he now plans to install this. We heard the trunk-relocated battery is happy about this.

In what will probably be far from the last step in the man’s dream to crossbreed a Crown Vic Interceptor with a Mustang Cobra, he’ll have to do quite a lot of work in order for that manual to fit in, as he happily states: “This will require me to remove the driveshaft, stock automatic transmission, cutting of a hole in the floor for the shifter, reinforcement of the firewall for the clutch pedal, along with a bunch of other things including a re-tune with the manual transmission.”

The really interesting part is that the man claims all the work was done by himselft, using the all-wise Google, as well as car forums. He also turned to a tuner for the more delicate operations such as welding.

As for the funny side of the story, he says that he’s only been pulled over once over all the years of owning multiple Crown Victorias.

Oh and due to a reasons such as a pretty spicy exhaust setup (Custom 3" exhaust, x-pipe, Bassani mufflers), this car isn’t a daily driven beast. For now, the thing allows his master to play with 422 RWHP, so those Nitto drag radiasl at the back are well nourished.
