RENNtech Turns the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter into a Convincing Hulk Impersonation

Out of all the vehicles out there, vans are probably the least exciting ones, and having the Mercedes-Benz badge on them is hardly enough to change that.
This concept, though, is not based on a van per se. The Sprinter Extreme is built on top of a heavy-duty Mercedes-Benz Sprinter Cab Chassis, which means that without any interventions, it was already capable of hauling a 6,400 lb payload and tow up to 7,500 lbs. And since it’s an open chassis vehicle, it can accommodate virtually anything behind its three-person cab.

To some construction worker, all this might even sound remotely enticing, but for the rest of us, it’s “meh.” The four-cylinder turbo-diesel engine doesn’t do much to spice things up either, confirming the Sprinter’s utilitarian nature.

In comes RENNtech, an old Mercedes-Benz client, even though they did focus their attention on different types of vehicles so far. Judging by the success they’ll undoubtedly have with the Sprinter Extreme concept, we could start seeing more and more of these very special workhorses in the future.

RENNtech’s modifications were ample, with almost every aspect of the Sprinter suffering some sort of change. For instance, there’s the roof rack with... who am I kidding, the most striking thing is that radioactive waste green color. The tuner went for a foil wrap, probably thinking that given the rough exploitation the vehicle is going to see, it makes more sense than investing in real paint.

The tough, off-roadish look is complemented by the suspension lift package that considerably raises the car over its normal height, making room for the large A/T tires and G-Class-inspired beadlock wheels. Just above the windshield there’s a massive roof rack with six forward-facing LED lights, plus two at the sides, with further lighting provided by the two larger spotlights on the bumper, flanking the winch.

You just know a car means business when it doesn’t even wait to go out into the world to get its muddy look, but instead it is bestowed upon itself by its creators. The Sprinter Extreme looks like it’s just come out of a swamp even seconds after leaving the car wash thanks to the special print on the foil - which starts to look a little weird after a while, seeing how the tires are immaculately clean.

RENNtech and Mercedes-Benz decided to equip the Sprinter Extreme with a Scattolini ScattoMaax “Tipper Bed,” allowing the vehicle to dump over 5,200 lbs of payload to either side or to the rear. Again, since we’re not really into dumping things, that’s not a very relevant information for us, but just look at how this thing looks. It’s a real shame it doesn’t come with four-wheel-drive as well.
