Renault Working on Tata Nano Rival in India

Renault India is currently developing a car smaller than the Pulse hatch. This would be powered by a tiny 800cc engine and could rival popular Indian cars like the Hyundai Eon, Maruti Suzuki Alto and even the Tata Nano.

The new A-segment car will hit the market in 2014 or 2015, according to The Economic Times. This date practically coincides with the launch of Nissan’s Datsun brand in the country, so we could be looking at a jointly-developed car.

This is especially true since most of the Datsun cars will be developed in India. Development of the compact hatch has started with the 800cc engine, which will mainly focus on offering economy. Gerard DeTourbet, Renault low-cost brands specialist, has already been put in charge of the project.

Let's just hope none of the parts for this car trickle down to the Twingo.
