Renault Teases Faster Megane RS. Could It Be the New R26.R?

You are probably not interested in what we have to say about the car right now, and are cursing the day that Renault Sport will release another exciting version of the Megane RS with plastic for windows, no seats, no room in the back and.... you want one don’t you, and you don’t care what the wife thinks, right?

Getting to the point, Renault Sport has released a brand new video teasing a really hot version of the Megane RS which is testing on the Nurburgring.

One minute and 27 seconds - that’s all it took for the June 17th arrival date of the model to be firmly engraved into our brains and for us to become firmly convinced this IS the replacement for the R26.R. Why? Because the Nurburgring veteran is briefly flashed in the background before the new generation takes center stage, flexing its rubber in front of the camera.

It looks like the Megane has gone through a bit of a weight loss, as those back winds are definitely made of lighter plastic. Most of the dash is still there, however, and the instruments are stock while the seatbelt looks like a regular 3-point model.

The video also shows the development team toiling over telematics, checking for the right tire pressure in an effort to squeeze those extra seconds. What for?

Well, the R26.R scored a new lap record for a front-wheel drive car around the Nurburgring track in Germany with a time of 8m 17s, so maybe the extra horsepower of the new Megane RS will result in an even better result.
