Renault-Nissan Alliance CEO Carlos Ghosn is currently in Korea to discuss Renault Samsung Motors' new strategic plan. Called "New Vision" this requires a major effort from the local joint venture with Sumsung.
Part of the agenda is a model expansion which should result in "turnover growth of 70% at least in 2016 versus 2013". The Korean company also expects it will become a player in the Top 3 domestic market hierarchy. Their current lineup is only made up of three sedans and two crossovers.

Another major part of the company's plans for profitability is actually an American model, the Nissan Rogue. The new model will be assembled in Korea, not for the local market but to be exported to the US. The company believes as many as 80,000 units of Nissan's new units can be made in Busan.

"This new Rogue manufacturing project is a win-win-win way for Renault, Nissan and RSM," Renault Samsung Motors CEO Francois Provost said

This crossover was revealed last year and is part of a family of Nissans, together with the Qashqai and X-Trail. It will continue to be made in Tennessee, as well as in Kyushu, Japan (X-Trail). The models made in Korea and sold in the United States are viewed as a boost to supply.

This is Ghosn's fourth visit to Korea and shows the Renault boss is concerned with this division. In the first quarter of 2014, RSM sales have gone down 16 percent, to 25,197 vehicles from 29,829 a year earlier. Both 2011 and 2012 figures show profit, with 2013 numbers giving a small glimmer of hope thanks to token profits.

It's hoped the QM3 is enough to secure better numbers in 2014, as the CEO is unwilling to commit any more investment funds. The QM3 is known as Renault Captur in Europe and has just been named SUV of the Year in Korea by Joong-Ang Daily, one of South Korea’s leading daily newspapers with a circulation of 1.3 million. It was launched in the country in November last year and 14,350 orders have already been placed.

Mihnea's favorite cars have already been built, the so-called modern classics from the '80s and '90s. He also loves local car culture from all over the world, so don't be surprised to see him getting excited about weird Japanese imports, low-rider VWs out of Germany, replicas from Russia or LS swaps down in Florida.
