The Fluence was only supposed to be a budget sedan to replace the Megane. It was developed in Korea by Samsung and yet only reached its full potential in Latin America. Today, Renault of Brazil launched the new Fluence GT2, and it's about as punch as the first Megane Sport.
Under the bonnet is a 2-liter turbo engine, the same setup you get with the Megane RS. Unfortunately, the output is nowhere near as high, but 190 PS is enough to get your pulse going.
The Fluence GT2 is a replacement for the GT, and it offer a 10 hp increase. Linked to a manual transmission, this new engine is capable of accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in 8 seconds and. It keeps going until a top speed of 225 km/h is reached. In that respect, it's as fast as the Clio RS.
The level of equipment and features is also excellent. An RS monitor is installed and provides the driver with information regarding turbo boost, lateral and longitudinal acceleration.
Cosmetically, the Fluence GT2 adopts a looks package that's reminiscent of Renaultsport toys. The front bumper has larger air vents painted in silver and accompanied by LED daytime running lights.
The model also features 17-inch wheels, a diffuser at the back and a discrete spoiler over the boot. Still, there's only one exhaust pipe, so we don't imagine it sounds like a proper hot hatch.
In case this tuned family car doesn't impress you, know that Renault also unleashed the Sandero RS 2.0 in Buenos Aires. It packs a 145 horsepower 2-liter engine.
