More torque, less weight and a better chassis, that's what the new Clio Cup race car promises. Unlike the road going Clio RS which went on sale this spring, the fourth-generation race car won't race until 2014. But already, the French car company's order books have been filled with orders from the UK Clio Cup.
Based on the road-going car, but fitted with a more powerful engine, gearbox, roll cage and different suspension, the Clio 4 Cup race car costs €39,900 plus VAT. That's only a little more than what you'd pay for an average sportscar, which we think is quite reasonable.

"Former championship-winning team Total Control Racing has ordered two cars, as has race-winning squad Scuderia Vittoria, with JHR Developments purchasing one Renault Clio from the first batch and existing drivers Finlay Crocker, Ronnie Klos and Simon Belcher each buying one of the brand new 1.6-litre turbo-charged cars," Renaultsport UK says.

“We always felt confident the new turbo-charged Clio would prove popular and we’re absolutely thrilled to have sold the first batch of cars for next season”, said North, “We’ve got fantastic support from existing teams like JHR, Scuderia Vittoria, TCR and 20Ten, and we’ve received a lot of enquiries from competitors completely new to Clio racing, like Daniel Rowbottom.

“I can’t think of any other championship, either on or off the TOCA package, which would be able to attract such strong support for the purchase of a new car when competitors and teams are in the midst of a year’s racing. It speaks volumes for the strength and quality of the Renault UK Clio Cup.”

Mihnea's favorite cars have already been built, the so-called modern classics from the '80s and '90s. He also loves local car culture from all over the world, so don't be surprised to see him getting excited about weird Japanese imports, low-rider VWs out of Germany, replicas from Russia or LS swaps down in Florida.
