The all-powerful Shelby Cobra 427 was built in only 343 units back in the 1960s, but that’s really a lot compared to the only 23 Competition Cobras that rolled off the assembly line. 23 can mean a lot of things, but when a famous vehicle is built in so few examples, it means collectible status and staggering price tags.
This Silver Mink-painted Cobra 427 will attract a lot of attention next month, when it will be auctioned off during Mecum’s Kissimmee 2014 classic car sale in Florida (January 17-26). The vehicle is perfectly restored in its original colors, in which it won the Production Sports Cars over 5.0 Litres class, and it’s expected to fetch some big bucks.

Chassis number CSX3016, the Cobra is listed in both Shelby Registry and Shelby American Guide 1st edition and was recently restored by a private collector, who commissioned HRE Motorcars of New York to get it back to its original specifications and racing colors.

The concours-ready Cobra is powered by a 7.0-liter V8 engine that delivers 500 horsepower via a four-speed manual transmission. It sure looks ready to hit the race track like back in the good ole days.
