Racer Crashes 1924 Bugatti Hard, Walks Away and Has a Beer [Video]
Burgess, who collects classic cars and like to race them too, was driving his $389,000 (EUR249,000) 1924 Bugatti in the UK’s Prescott Speed Hill Climb on Sunday.
This kind of cars tend to be rather unstable by modern standards and this is exactly what happened - Burgess was approaching a hairpin when he lost control. The vehicle tippled over on its way through the corner, smashing against a barrier.
Even though this looked more like a motorcycle crash than an automotive one for the driver, the 56-year-old not only walked away, but he also went to grab a beer on the side of the track.
“It happened very suddenly. I was approaching a hairpin bend and I was going a little faster than usual, maybe 30mph, when I tried to brake,” Burgess was quoted as saying by the Daily Mail.
'Before I knew it, I'd lost control and the car toppled over. When I saw how damaged the car was, I was amazed I could pull myself out and walk away. I was very lucky.”
