Power Not Stressed Out about Indy Full Drive
- Power scored his maiden Indy win at Edmonton
- He scored 3 podiums in 5 races for Penske
- Power: No pressure for Indy full drive
| Will Power |
He initially signed a deal with Penske Racing in order to replace Helio Castroneves – caught in a legal dispute over tax evasion at the time – in case the Brazilian driver wouldn't have been able to return to racing in 2009. After his exoneration, Helio was immediately given his seat back, leaving Power on a selected events contract.
In all his 5 starts for Penske Racing this year, he scored 2 pole positions and made 3 podium appearances, while also winning his maiden Indy race. All of this, argued Power, was the result of pressure-less driving in 2009.
“I'm not sure what more I can do. I haven't been thinking forward, I've just been taking things one day at a time. That's one reason I'm enjoying my racing this year,” said Power after his Edmonton win, according to British publication Autosport.
“In the last three years I've always been stressing about not having a ride the next year. This year I don't have a full-time ride but I'm enjoying my racing more than ever. I think the situation and atmosphere within the team also contributes to that. You know, I've got two really good team-mates. We all get along really well, and these guys look after you. It's just a fantastic place to be driving,” added the Aussie driver, who's yet to make 3 more outings for Penske this season.
