What's the best thing you could possibly do when a brand new German saloon with a diesel engine is launched? Take it to the Autobahn and let it really stretch its legs, of course.
The brand new Mercedes C-Class comes in many exciting new flavors to chose from, but for a company car buyer none are as exciting as this one, the new C220 CDI. The numbers pretty much speak for themselves: a 2.1-liter turbo engine with 170 hp and more importantly a meaty 400 Nm of torque. 0 to 100 km/h takes just 8.1 seconds while the top speed is a very respectable 234 km/h.
Perhaps more importantly, this fast, luxurious rear-wheel drive saloon is as economical as a city car. In town, it will do 5 l/100km but thanks to an efficient seven-speed auto, those numbers drop to 3.7 l/100km on the highway, provided of course you are saintly with the throttle.
As you can see, or rather you can hear, it also makes a great sound as the throttle blips on downshifts. It's got performance disguised as efficiency wrapped around a core of luxury, easily a best-buy of the whole 2014 C-Class model range. In Germany, where this clip was filmed, the C220 "limousine" will set you back upwards of €38,675 (this being its base price).
Don't let the C63 AMG at the beginning of all the videos fool you, this is all about diesel power.
