Porsche Sold 45,000 Macan SUVs Last Year, Reports 17.2 Billion Euro Revenue 1 photo
With only six months or so from its official debut, Porsche’s Macan SUV managed to become the brand’s MVP in terms of sales and once again, save the company due to a good market performance in 2014.
Porsche’s recipe worked like a charm for the second time, according to a report that focuses on the company’s last year market performance. In case you’re not familiar with Porsche’s secret formula, here’s an insight: some years ago, sales were low for Porsche so they came up with the Cayenne SUV, a controversial but financially pragmatic car that proved to be a huge hit among customers.

After the Cayenne hit the market, sales were up again and everyone was happy. Now, we get to see the same pattern. Porsche launches the Macan and the SUV performs just as expected, saving the day once again.

According to Porsche, the Stuttgart-based company delivered 45,000 Macan units until the end of 2014. Please remember that we’re talking about a car launched last summer, so this figure really is a big deal. Porsche seems to confirm this, saying that “revenue rose by one-fifth to 17.2 billion euro” (around $18 billion).

Moreover, Porsche says that worldwide, “three out of four Macan customers have opted for a vehicle of the Porsche brand for the first time”. Well, as far as we’re concerned, this means the Macan was able to put up a one-man show kind of performance and contributed heavily to the company’s successful 2014 fiscal year.

In fact, Porsche’s press release only mentions Macan’s sales figures and the overall number of cars delivered (189,849), without giving details about other models in its range. This means that the Macan alone managed to account for one quarter of Porsche’s sales in 2014, despite only having six months at its disposal.

Porsche officials are optimistic about the future and they should be, because their winning recipe is looking to be as effective as it was back when the Cayenne was launched.
