Even though I've only "surveyed" two friends on this, I don't expect it to be uncommon for car aficionados to visit the Porsche configurator before going to bed at night, for a little relaxation. For instance, I do this from time to time and it's much, much better than the age-old sheep-counting ritual. No really, it is.
Sometimes I also consolidate my plan of owning a Zuffenhausen machine in the middle of the day. And, by doing so today, I noticed that the Porsche website, along with its juicy configurator core, has been given a facelift. You know, to go with the 2017 model year developments.

In the traditional Porsche style, you need to be familiar with the "old" website to figure out things have changed. Oh, and by the way, at the time when this article was published, the revamp only seemed to cover Porsche Cars North America, as, for instance, the UK and the German interfaces remained unchanged.

I'll start with the main page, which now has better graphics - truth be told, the existing ones were starting to get a bit old, so I feel the change is welcome.

As for the configurator, the novelty is that you can now choose between three kick-off options. You can start with the basic configuration (as before) or go for two pre-configurations, a Performance and a Popular one.

It's nice to see the carmaker pulling a bit of a Porsche Exclusive stunt on its website by making me feel there's a tailor-made specialist assisting me with the build journey.

So, is the Popular pre-configuration actually based on what the sales data claims? Probably, but, for certain Porsche fans, this will only mean memorizing all the details of the said path to know what to avoid. As for me, I've already played with the new goodies to satisfy my curiosity and now I'm going back to the basic stuff, where I can place each tech goodie or color as a Zuffenhausen puzzle piece.

P.S.: You'll find examples of the new and "old" website pages and configurators in the images from the photo gallery.
