Porsche Mission E Concept Revealed in Frankfurt with 600 Electric Horses , Live Photos

Before the end of the decade, Volkswagen Group will have 20 more electric or plug-in vehicles than it has today. The Porsche Mission E could easily be considered their flagship because of the way it captures the imagination.

Think back to your childhood and the remote control toys you played with. Did they come with an emissions sticker and solar panel? Of course not, they just had to be as fun as possible, and that's pretty much what the first-ever fully electric sportscar from a volume manufacturer plans to do.

We're certain the Germans want to put this into mass production, so we're going to treat the Vision E as if it were to go on sale within the next five years. The all-wheel drive and electric motors won't just be there to shoot you in a straight line, like the ones of the Tesla's P85D. No, Porsche engineers are working on delivering the complete experience: on the track, highway and city.

There are other manufacturers with powerful EVs, but can they recharge their batteries to 80% in just 15 minutes? Porsche calls it "Turbo Charging," which is gimmicky. But you could theoretically spend a whole day at Monza or Silverstone without spending a single cent on petrol.

Absolute power corrupts absolutely

The funny thing about the Mission E is that it has more power than any Porsche currently in production except the 918. Using their Le Mans winning technologies, engineers were able to pin down 600 horsepower from two electric motors.

Making every one of those ponies count, the four-door gets from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in only 3.5 seconds. 200 km/h (124 mph) passes in about twelve seconds, and the top speed exceeds 250 km/h (155 mph). That, my friends, is a drag racing machine in the making!

The world is changing, and Stuttgart cannot sit idly by. While upstarts like Tesla and Apple are plotting the future of mobility, Porsche will ensure fun is available even in the era of electricity.

Design: it's all in the DNA

I'm sure that fans of classic air-cooled 911s will hate it, but the Mission E is a stunner. What's more, they used many features from today's lineup of models, like the four LEDs of the 918 Spyder headlight unit or the rounded hips of the Carrera 4 family.

This concept is a four-seater, though one that's smaller than the Panamera. Could this also be a preview for the long-rumored Pajun premium sedan model? We'll be more than happy if that's the case.
