Porsche Macan Recall: US-spec Model Affected by Dodgy Brake Booster Installation

At the end of May, the most revered sports car manufacturer from Germany shocked with its announcement that 2,500 Euro-specification Macan compact crossover SUVs suffer from a badly installed brake booster, damaged during the assembly process. But the Stuttgart-based automaker made a new announcement today, informing that a handful of US-spec Macans are also affected by the booster fault.
After the notorious "Nine-A-Lemon" episode that ended in April, some 50 units of the Porsche 918 Spyder have been recalled over rear control arms failure risk, which is worrying, to say the least, if you consider the massive $845,000 starting price of the Porsche brand's current flagship model.

Documents sent by Porsche North America to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration inform that only 7 Macan vehicles were fitted with boosters that might have been damaged during assembly.  If the brake booster is indeed damaged, the vacuum in the booster can drop when the brakes are actuated.

This results in reduced brake force boost and a reduced braking effect when high pressure is applied to the brake pedal. Even if the deceleration achieved meets the legally required minimum requirements, it doesn't conform with Porsche's standards. Even so, the brake assist function remains fully available.

Porsche will notify owners of those 7 US-spec Macans and dealers will inspect and replace the brake booster, as necessary, free of charge. The German manufacturer has not yet provided a notification schedule. In the meantime, owners may contact the Porsche customer service at 1-800-545-8039.
