Porsche Macan GTS Spied Testing

A rich lineup bouquet has become as much of a Porsche trademark as the rear-engined nature of the 911, so it is only natural to expect Zuffenhausen’s latest creation, the Macan, to go down this road. While we’re still checking out the Macan S, Macan Turbo and Mancan S Diesel, Porsche’s engineers are out there testing what appears to be the Macan GTS.

Porsche had already confirmed the Macan GTS and Macan Turbo S, so the test vehicle in the adjacent images looks completely legit. The front end, as well as the exhaust tips indicate that this is a Macan GTS. And if you’re still not convinced we are not dealing with the Macan Turbo S, check out the brakes - the range-topping Turbo S will certainly be gifted with more serious hardware.

In terms of power, the Macan GTS plays in a rather narrow league. The S offers 340 hp from, a 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6, while the Turbo comes with a nicely rounded 400 hp, courtesy of a 3.6-liter twin-turbo unit. The Macan GTS is expected to deliver about 360 hp.

More importantly, the GTS will be focused on offering a sharper driving experience. The obvious upgrade here should arrive in terms of exhaust tone, which brings us to an interesting point. The Macan will be the first GTS model to use turbocharging - the entire Macan range consists exclusively of forced induction engines, so the GTS shouldn’t be any different. We admit we’re dying to find out how this thing will sound.

This falls in line with Porsche’s turbo migration, a move that has already spread onto the revamped Panamera and will also include the Cayenne facelift, next-gen Cayman, Boxster and even the 911.
