Porsche China To Recall 640 Panameras

Porsche’s Chinese arm will initiate a recall campaign that will involve 640 vehicles (three Panamera versions), in order to fix a potential safety belt issue, as Xinhua News reports.

The recall affects the Panamera S, Panamera 4S and Panamera Turbo cars produced before January 25 2010, said the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine (GAQSIQ), citing a report issued by Porsche China.

A design fault affecting the safety belt may lead to the failure of the fixation function in extreme cases, making the whole system useless and thus posing a serious threat to the safety of the vehicles’ occupants.

Porsche will add new safety devices to fix the problem, with the operation being performed free of cost. Owners of the involved vehicles can contact Porsche through a dedicated hot line, or can ask the GAQSIQ for more information on the matter.

Porsche wants to sell 10,000 cars on the Chinese market this year, as it plans to take full advantage of the country’s rising economy. In order to achieve this target, the company will expand its dealer network in the country, adding 13 new dealership during the course of the current year.

In addition to that, the automotive producer will introduce new models in China, now its third biggest market. The company predicts that the country will become its second biggest market by 2012, surpassing Germany. The 2012 predicted sales figure is situated somewhere around 16,000 units. Last year, Porsche’s sales on the Chinese market saw a 13 percent increase, reaching a total of 9,090 units.
