Porsche Cayenne: The King is Dead. Long Live the King!...
It was inevitable for Porsche to pick up the gloves and come out and play. And they did it like only they know how. Although it's based on the less-famous Volkswagen Touareg, the Cayenne has always amazed me with its handling and reliability. This is a car that's very rare in the world of models thrown on the market without being properly tested, full of "inherent" problems and extremely weak where an SUV should shine: off-road!
The Cayenne manages to surprise you both on the highway, where you have the feeling of being inside a spacecraft that has no regard for the "tired" laws of physics, and in off-road, where the likes of BMW's SAVs or others like it wouldn't dream of getting.
It's the "perfect SUV", one that any car fan should one day desire. It's the type of car you can't complain of unless you don't know anything about the auto industry or you are already hooked on the "competition", who are only seeking huge sales and have zero respect for their customers.
Because the next-generation Cayenne has been officially launched, I can only salute the old model stepping down from the "king of versatile SUVs" title, while honoring the unveiling of a new king. The new Cayenne looks better than ever and it offers more features than it ever did. In other words, it will most likely climb back to first place, a place which seems specially-designed for Porsche.
Although it might seem odd, I think that the Cayenne might become the second 911 for Porsche. Just as the 911 has its own place nailed in history and it's still a fantastic car, so is the Cayenne in the SUV segment. Its first generation has practically swept the floor with the competition and has offered everything that Porsche knows how to offer: safety, incredible reliability, comfort and a sensational lack of compromises.
A true Swiss knife on wheels, an all-in-one vehicle which never fails, wherever you would go with it. To me, if the Mercedes-Benz G-Klasse is synonym for the perfect off-roader, then the Cayenne is a synonym for the perfect SUV. If the G-Klasse is a living classic then the Cayenne will offer you the modern side of an SUV. They are both perfect in their own way and they complete each other wonderfully. Last but not least, they would look perfect in any car connoisseur's garage.
Yes, they are both expensive but they can't be compared with any other SUV ever created. I'm inviting you to test the new Cayenne if you have the chance just so you could feel the way every SUV should be. While you're on it, you should also try the yardstick model: Cayenne Turbo.
