Porsche Cayenne S Hybrid Detailed
The engine which will equip the Cayenne hybrid is the supercharged 3.0l V6 with Direct Fuel Injection. The unit will join forces with a 52 horsepower electric motor. The latter can be used either as an additional power source or as a separate drive unit.
Taken separately, the 3.0l engine develops 333 horsepower between 5,500 and 7,000 rpm. The maximum torque of 440Nm comes at 2,900rpm and can be sustained consistently through to 5,300rpm.
Add to it the electric motor and the total power is increased to 374 horsepower and peak torque of 550 Nm at 1,500 rpm. The Cayenne hybrid can thus achieve naught to sixty acceleration in 6.8 seconds, performance similar to a V8 engine.
The new Cayenne is closer than we might think. According to Porsche, the Cayenne S hybrid will become available by 2010. As for the plans the manufacture has for the new hybrid, Porsche sales chief Klaus Berning said "It is clear that the customer in this segment wants this technical solution, which will communicate that they are successful, that I have a sporty car and that I care about the environment. We are planning serious volume."
