Porsche 911 Speedster and 911 GTS Leaked
Now it seems that the company is continuing to follow this trend. According to autoexpress, a leaked document covering Porsche’s product plans by the end of 2012 shows that the Speedster name will return to the 911 line-up.
The last 911 Speedster, which was produced in limited numbers (936 units) during 1989 was a low roof version of the 964 generation 911 Cabriolet, with the vehicle evoking the 356 model from the 1950s. The upcoming 997 generation 911 Speedster will be an even more exclusive vehicle, as its production will be limited to 100 units.
The car, which will only offer two seats, will feature a chopped windscreen, wider body and will use a set of rear humps. As for the roof, this will be similar to the canvas one offered by the aforementioned Boxster Spyder.
At the rear of the 911 Spyder we will find the 911 Sport Classic’s 3.8 liter six cylinder boxer, which offers a 17 hp premium (compared to the incarnation of the unit found on the Carrera) for a total of 402 hp. A limited slip differential will help the car deal with the 0 to 62 mph sprint in 4.5 seconds and offer a good handling. As for the top speed, this is expected to play in the 190 mph league.
All this retro drama comes with a price. The 911 Speedster, which should enter the market by the end of the year, is expected to come with a price tag of $300,000 (EUR 239,000).
But Porsche is not only planing to offer an ultra-exclusive version of the 911. Customers willing to pay $120,000 and $135,000 ( EUR 95,500 and EUR 107,600) will get a wide body GTS version of the 911 coupe and cabrio, respectively. The vehicles will be fitted with the Speedster’s 402 hp powerplant.
