Porsche 911 R Doing 200 MPH on German Autobahn Is The Stuff of Wet Dreams

Andreas Preuninger, is supposed to be the man helming Porsche's GT division, but, from time to time, the engineer also likes to do the PR work. For instance, he couldn't help but pull a bit of a trolling move on Evo Magazine, mentioning how Brits can't enjoy the 200 mph charms of the 911 R on the road, as Germans can.
One thing led to another and Evo took the 500 hp manual Neuelfer to the German Autobahn. The aim was a simple one: putting the rear-engined supercar's 201 mph (make that 323 km/h if you prefer the metric system) official top speed to the test.

The clip below allows us to see the 911 R going flat out on a derestricted section of the Autobahn. And while you might expect such a straight line shenanigan to be packed with delicious gear changes, you'll also notice the hefty brakes of the vehicle being subjected to an impromptu test.

And while some could think that doing 200 in what is the most expensive fixed-roof model in the 911 line-up isn't that much of a big deal, the stability of the thing is downright amazing.

You'll have to take into account the fact that, in many ways, the R is the opposite of the GT3 RS. The aim of the R is to distil the over five decades of 911 experience, offering its driver a cocktail of sensations few contemporary supercars can deliver.

As a result, from the lack of an aerodynamic obsession, through the more playful handling setup, to the lesser soundproofing, there are plenty of factors here that could make a driver experience fear at such speeds. And yet, the German engineers have managed to go all Porsche, overcoming any such issue.

The sheer idea of looking at one of the world's only 991 examples of the 2016 911 R should be enough to make that "play" button below even spicier.
