We've said it before and we'll say it again - you know drifting has truly become popular when a carmaker like Porsche, which used to work with nothing but handling balance, integrates such sideways practices into its customer driving training.
And what an integration the stunt in the footage below is. We are dealing with a 911 GT3 RS using the five-decade-plus of Porsche chassis refinement to demonstrate the art of drifting a street car.
In the hands of a Porsche instructor, the Rennsport hardware shows a customer what sliding a Zuffenhausen machine is all about. The action takes place on the Yas Marina Circuit in Abu Dhabi, with the night time play making things even more captivating.
Ralph Melis, one of the lucky attendees of the event who saw the sideways shenanigan taking place, explains the feat on Facebook: "This was at the Porsche world Tour last week at Yas Marina Circuit. What you see is the Porsche instructors getting rid of the last bits of rubber on the Pirelli tires (sponsored) at around midnight, as that's about the time we finished. Was an awesome event though."
And that's just half the story. Since we enjoy comparos and we promised you one in the title above, we added a second video below.
The clip at the bottom of the page shows the same Porsche instructor (the man actually works for a third-party driving event organizer who collaborates with Zuffenhausen) drifting the hell out of a non-RS GT3 PDK.
In a bit of an orange-to-apple move, the GT3's sideways stint takes place on a different track, namely the Losail International Circuit in Qatar. But hey, at least the two sites are not that far apart, right?
P.S.: For all you youngsters checking out these hellish Rennsport drifting clips and thinking you'd like to be like this driver when you grow up, you should know his name is Wim.
Update: Here's Wim doing his sideways thing in a Cayman GT4.
