In a few days’ time, we’ll get to meet the new Porsche 911 Carrera 4 range at the Paris Motor Show, but the release of the car means much more than just the arrival of the four-wheel drive 911s.
It means that Porsche is preparing to release the special incarnations of the rear-engined coupe and we’re here now to talk about the 911 GT3, which has recently been spied with almost no cammo.
The adjacent video and images show the usual GT3 appearance goodies and for the new generations this means a vented front fascia with a generously-sized lip, while at the back we get a wing that resembles that shown on the Sport Design Package for the 991 Carrera, as well as a twin tailpipe.
Porsche was out testing three prototypes, with all of them riding on 20-inch wheels that used 245/35 rubber for the front axle and 305/30 tires for the rear axle (we are talking about Pirelli P-Zeros).
However, the question that everybody’s asking is what will send the power to the rear wheels, as Porsche is rumored to launch the GT3 with a PDK double-gearbox only. However, this might not be true, as the investment needed to develop then new seven-speed manual for the 991 generation could offer a heftier return if the transmission was also offered on the GT3, especially since fans (who we have to explain are not necessarily customers) have expressed their desire for a manual in this track-focused version of the car.
