With the occasion of this weekend’s Moto Grand Prix in Valencia, Pons Kalex unveiled their prototype bike for next season’s entry in Moto2. Following a joint-venture between successful 250cc class racing team Pons Racing and German engineering company Kalex Engineering that was announced earlier in October, the resulting team will race in the Moto2 class next year as Pons Kalex.

Sito Pons revealed the bike model presented this Friday in Valencia won’t differ very much from the one that will actually make the start next season in the newly conceived moto racing category that will replace the 250cc class.

Pons Kalex said they will begin testing their prototype bike after this weekend’s Moto GP at the Ricardo Tormo Circuit.

"We are very proud to unveil our prototype for next year. We have a joint venture with Kalex Engineering and they have a lot of experience in technology; they work in Formula 1, DTM and aeronautics,” explained manager Sito Pons for motogp.com. “With Kalex we can develop our own technology with them, and create our own prototype. This is the key factor that helped make our decision to join up with them. It’s not like we have a bike already finished, we are going to build this machine and develop it with them. We can build on this and in the future go to MotoGP and other things – this will be a good base for us to develop our own technology.”

“We will make our first rollout on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. This is our first prototype and we need to evolve it. We are sure this is already very close to the finished article, we think this is the way we should go,” continued Pons.

With preparations entering the final stage for Pons Kalex, the only problem at the moment seem to be choosing the right riders for the Moto2 series, as the team haven’t made an official announcement concerning this matter.

“For the moment we cannot announce who will ride this machine. Obviously we have been working for a long time on that, we have some good ideas and I think in the near future we can announce the riders who will be in our project,” concluded Pons.
