Polaroid Cube HD Action Camera Wants to Beat the GoPro

Polariod announces the Cube action camera, touted -as many others- the next pretender to the Hero GoPro units. Calling the Polaroid Cube a GoPro-killer is a bit too much, obviously, even though on the styling side, the Cube does indeed look tenfold more fashionable than the rather dull aesthetics of the latter.

One of the awesome assets of the GoPro is the multitude of accessories developed for it, allowing users to do pretty much anything with the camera, deriving more desirability from the incredible versatility and functionality. So far, the Polaroid Cube only sports a few basic accessories, but it looks like if the demand in high enough we might get to see the line expanded.

The Polaroid Cube can record 720p and 1080p videos, storing them on a microSD card up to 32GB, and can also take 6MP photos. The lens is a 124-degree-wide unit, allowing a good field of vision for all types of action. The built-in battery uses a microUSB connector for recharging, and Polaroid says it can record 90 minutes of video on a full charge.

Cube arrives with a rubber case which protects the camera, and has an integrated magnet which attaches effortlessly to any metal surface. The rubber encasement also makes it shockproof and dustproof for more reliable operation.

The camera is waterproof down to 2 meters (6ft) below the surface, but the accessory specialized case extends the depth to 10 meters (33 ft).A switch on the minimalist back panel toggles 720p and 1080p video quality and that sums pretty much all there is to the Polaroid Cube, a true easy-to-use camera.

The dimensions are diminutive, a cube with a 35mm (1.4”) edge, making it fit inside any pocket and almost easy to lose in larger bags. Definitely a decent alternative to the GoPro, especially with its $100 (€74) pre-order price from Photojojo, that is, if you don’t intend to ask too much from it. Will it beat the GoPro? Obviously not, but if you’re looking for a decent FullHD stylish action camera, then the Polaroid Cube will be hard to beat,e ven though for motorcycle use, a safety lanyard is a must. If it comes off, there's a 0.2% chance to ever find it again, unless you're on the Salt Flats.
