Pink Floyd Drummer to Drive a Silver Arrow Again at Goodwood

The 2010 Goodwood Festival of Speed makes final preparations today, as the event is scheduled to take place from July 2 to 4. German carmaker Audi will also be attending the motorsport event, with a couple of notable appearances that are set to draw the crowd’s attention.

First off, Nick Mason, drummer of the legendary Pink Floyd rock group, will again drive the Auto Union Silver Arrow. “It’s a great feeling to drive at Goodwood every year, but all the more so in an Auto Union racing car,” Mason said in a release.

The Pink Floyd drummer, also called “Auto Union’s last works driver” by some, will get behind the wheel of a 1939 Auto Union Type D with twin superchargers this time, a car that Audi Tradition had rebuilt a few years ago. Aside from being an avid motorsport fan, Mason also owns an exclusive collection of racing cars.

Another interesting treat prepared by Audi for the 150,000 visitors expected to attend this year’s event is three-time Le Mans winner Marco Werner, who will grab the steering wheel of an Audi V8 quattro DTM. He is one of the very few drivers to have won all three classic long-distance races – Le Mans, Daytona and Sebring.

“After wins in the 1990 and 1991 DTM, its engine was given a new crankshaft, to which competing teams objected but which was examined by the Supreme National Sport Authority (ÖNS) and found to conform with the rules,”
a company statement reads.
