Peugeot HYbrid3 Evolution Unveiled at EICMA 2009

French manufacturer Peugeot introduced a new scooter concept at the 2009 EICMA Show in Milan, dubbed HYbrid3 Evolution. The three-wheeled vehicle is, in fact, a roofless version of the HYbrid3 compressor, presented at the 2008 Paris Motor Show. The project is further illustrating Peugeot’s vision of future urban mobility, just like the BB1 and iOn presented at the 2009 Frankfurt Auto Show.

The vehicle is propelled by a hybrid powertrain that includes 300 cm3 compressor petrol engine and outputs 30 kW (41 bhp) at the rear wheel. Moreover, the HYbrid3 Evolution is also equipped with two electric motors that power the two front wheels with an output of 2x3 kW.

In the aforementioned configuration, the vehicle emits only 48 g/km of CO2 in the combined cycle or zero in electric mode solely. The fuel consumption of this new scooter concept is 2.0 litres/100 km (117.6 mpg). In electric mode, the Peugeot HYbrid3 Evolution is able to run for 10 km on a full charge of the lithium-ion batteries.

The HYbrid3 Evolution also benefits of the Stop&Start technology, which puts the engine on standby when the vehicle is at a standstill (at traffic lights, a stop sign or in traffic jams) or when the vehicle is being driven in electric mode.

Brakes incorporate an ABS system coupled with a linked integral braking system (PBS) which acts simultaneously on the rear wheel and the two front wheels. The assembly (3 wheels + electric motor braking) allows it to reduce the braking distance by around 30 % compared to a two-wheel scooter equipped with traditional brakes.

As for the exterior styling elements, the vehicle features panels of light emitting diodes located on either side of the base of the front windscreen, providing efficient lighting and as a result the ability to be seen more clearly in traffic.

According to Peugeot, from 2011, the HYbrid4 3008 will be the Group’s first vehicle to be sold with an HDi engine at the front and an electric motor at the rear.
