In a Porsche-like announcement with a Chinese twist, Peugeot has pledged to launch at least one new model per year there with the clear aim of strengthening its presence on the Asian market. At the 20111 Shanghai Motor Show, the French carmeker will reveal both the 508 destined for the Chinese market and presents its cutting edge concept car, 100% designed in China.
Peugeot considers the 508 an essential model for its success in China, as the model surpassed its sales expectations a month and a half after the European debut. According to the French automaker, the 508 launch is an essential launch for two reasons:
“It symbolizes the commitment of Peugeot to continue expanding its range with vehicles that impact both the most significant and profitable segments of the Chinese automobile market,” the company press release states.

- Firstly, one 508 saloon in two will be manufactured and sold in China – one vehicle in three of all versions produced – for a provisional annual sales volume of 65 000 units in China for a full year.
- Secondly, 508 contributes to Peugeot’s global offensive strategy in enhancing both their model range and quality to new levels, in parallel to their recent launch of 3008 in China and their upcoming launch of RCZ on the 20th of this coming May.
