Peugeot engineers are testing a facelifted version of the 308, the brand’s compact hatchback.
The spy photographers from CarPix spotted the prototype in Southern Europe, and have supplied us with a photo gallery of Peugeot’s upcoming model.
As you can observe, the front bumper has been restyled, and the headlights have gone through a similar treatment. The front grille might also be changed, even though its pattern seems largely unchanged.
The side of the Peugeot 308 has not seen any noteworthy changes, and the rear appears to have remained unmodified. We would not rule out a set of tail lights with a different interior graphic, but with the same shape, which can be fitted without modified the surrounding components. The 308 is expected to receive multiple changes under the hood and inside.
First of all, Peugeot will revamp the engine range, so that the 308 will be better suited to the updated requirements of the compact hatchback market. Secondly, the French brand might change a few things inside, but these changes must be performed without dramatic modifications of the interior layout.
The facelift of the Peugeot 308 has big shoes to fill, as the ongoing model won the 2014 European Car of the Year award. At the time, the 308 was appreciated for the simplified center console, as well as its handling, design, and fuel economy. Peugeot just has to improve each aspect of the car minutely, and it will remain competitive on the market.
Peugeot could showcase the 308 at this year’s Paris Motor Show, since it takes place on home turf. If the brand decides to postpone the public reveal of the 308 facelift, it could be showcased at next year’s Geneva Motor Show, which takes place at the beginning of March.
Either way, this mid-cycle refresh should provide the 308 with much-needed traction in the battle with the Volkswagen Golf and Ford Focus, two models that outsell the French hatchback by a significant margin.
