Peugeot 307 Launched in China

Global automakers, especially those based in Europe, are launching new models in China on a monthly basis, as the local market is continuously growing and returning increasing profits. Peugeot yesterday introduced the 307 model in the Chinese market, with the French manufacturer's local joint venture, Dongfeng Peugeot Citroen, planning to sell 20,000 units of the car in the remaining months of the year.

The Peugeot 307 sedan will be offered at a price between 106,800 yuan ($15,640) and 146,800 yuan, and the Peugeot 307 hatchback is priced at 103,800-153,800 yuan.

The company's representatives admitted that selling so many units in the remaining months of 2009 is indeed an optimistic plan but according to gasgoo.com, Peugeot hopes the low price and the upgraded configurations will make it a well selling product in China.

Peugeot 307 is offered in Europe with a wide array of engine options, including diesel and petrol units. The standard unit is a 1.4-liter 16V configuration that develops 90 horsepower at 5,250 rpm and 133 Nm of torque at 3,250 rpm. It helps the car go from 0 to 100 km/h in 12.8 seconds and reach a maximum speed of 106.9 mph (172 km/h).

The top-of-the-range configuration is the 2.0-liter 16V engine that generates 177 horsepower at 7,000 rpm and 202 Nm of torque at 4,750 rpm. It propels the 307 from naught to sixty in 8.2 seconds and tops at 136.7 mph (220 km/h). As for fuel consumption it achieves 19.9 mpg (11.8 L/100Km) city and 36.2 mpg (6.5 L/100Km) highway.
