Paul McCartney's Lamborghini Hits the Auction Block

A vehicle previously owned by music legend Paul McCartney is to go under the hammer at the forthcoming Goodwood auction by Bonhams on July 1st, 2011. The vehicle in question is a right-hand-drive 1967 Lamborghini 400GT 2+2 which has attracted a pre-sale estimate of £100,000 – 120,000.

A total of 247 units of the 400GT 2+2 were built from 1966 to 1968, when it was replaced with the Islero, and just a small number of those were right-hand-drive. Under the hood we find a V12 engine with a power output of 320 horsepower, and which is coupled to a 5-speed manual transmission.

The car joins an impressive line-up for the annual sale of Collectors' Motor Cars and Automobilia. The highlight of the sale is a rare and handsome 1954 Aston Martin DB2/4 Cabriolet, previously owned by the legendary Grand Prix and sports-racing driver, Innes Ireland.

In addition, other important motor cars already consigned include a 1925 Bugatti Type 35 (estimate £400,000 – 500,000), a 1926 Bugatti Type 37, chassis no. BC78 (£120,000 - 160,000), a 1937 Bentley 41/4-Litre Allweather Tourer by Vanden Plas (£130,000 - 150,000), and a 1928 Bentley 3-Litre Speed Model (estimate £120,000 – 140,000), which has belonged to the same family since 1945.

Also, the sale includes a 1972 Ferrari 365GTB/4 Daytona (£210,000 - 240,000), a 1990 Ferrari F40 (estimate £320,000 – 350,000), and a 1988 Porsche 959 (estimate £160,000 – 180,000).

Earlier this year, Bonhams auctioned a 1965 Ferrari 330 GT 2+2 said to have been owned by another member of The Beatles, John Lennon.
