A new day, a fresh piece of news related to the outgoing Pagani Zonda (we’re considering creating a new category on our website: "oh, sweet supercar teasing").

This time, Pagani is pushing the marketing pedal, releasing a delicious video and a stunning set of images from the Zonda R’s record-setting 6 minutes 47 seconds Nurburgring lap.

With Marc Basseng behind the wheel, the racing incarnation of the Zonda broke the Nurburgring Nordschleife record for racing vehicles derived from road legal cars at the end of last month.

As a reminder, we’ll tell you that the Zonda R, which tips the scales at 1,070 kg, uses a 6.0 liter V12 monster brought to life by AMG that hits the rear wheels with 750 hp and 710 Nm of torque. The 0 to 62 mph sprint is dealt with in just 2.7 seconds, while the top speed sits at 218 mph (351 km/h).

Only 15 units of the Zonda R were built, with a price of EUR1.5 million for each car.

Before you watch the video of the epic run, you might want to check out Pagani’s tale:

Assuring new technologies and materials are fit for production means also putting the vehicle's components under severe stresses, exceeding those normally encountered in every day road driving. The Nurburgring Nordschleife is the most demanding track in the world, for man and machine, an ordeal that each Pagani has to pass, only one of many in the entire development phase. The Zonda R serves as the ultimate test bench, a car able to reach acceleration figures and speeds that are not possible with a road car. This is further undermined by a laptime of 6:47,5 min for the 20,832 km Nordschleife.
