As if the Nurburgring record battles hadn't been effervescent enough this year (the Alfa Romeo vs. Porsche brawl is the most recent), another player has joined the game, hoping to make the most out of the season's final part. And we're talking Pagani, people.
Today's Industry Pool testing session has reportedly ended at 17:15 local time, but the Green Hell didn't exactly close its gates after that. Instead, the Nordschleife was reserved for the octane animal that is the Pagani Huayra BC.
And, thanks to the track-obsessed Bridge To Gantry (BTG), we can now bring you the footage of the $2.5 million machine, which is Pagani's most concentrated effort to date, going round the Carousel.
While such details may only bring us the idea that Horacio Pagani's team is working to deliver a lap time, the Italian automaker's Instagram page seems to shed some light on the company's intentions.
Given the Zonda C12 S in the image, as well as the velocity tool's 7:44 record, which arrived back in 2002 and was used as a benchmark of its time, we supposed this is the correct answer to Pagani's trivia.
Returning to the $2.5 million Pagani Huayra Benny Caiola, the comprehensive list of upgrades this packs compared to the "regular" Huayra means the Italians have a fair chance at stealing the Porsche 918 Spyder's production car record (6:57).
However, we mustn't forget that another team of velocity experts is currently working towards this goal over in Agelholm, Sweden. Will Koenigsegg manage to rebuild the One:1 wrecked in the quest to set a new Ring record? Here's to hoping we get to see the pair of speed demons duking it out until the cold weather takes over.
And while, mathematically, the 20-unit planned production run of the Huayra BC does make it less exclusive than the 7-car Koenigsegg One:1 world population, this fight should be as close as they get.
UPDATE:With BTG keeping a close eye on the Pagani Huyra BC serving Nurburgring duties, we now know the name of the driver. And since we're talking about Marc Basseng, a GT racing driver whose resume includes a few Ring lap records (think: Carrera GT or Enzo), Pagani's intentions now seem even clearer. So here's a short video showing you how Mark's week at the twin-turbo V12 office is going.
