To be more precise, a total of 2.09 million vehicles were handed over to customers, an increase of over 12 percent over the 1.86 million shifted in the same period of last year. The brand reported another noticeable increase in deliveries for the month of May, with 436,400 vehicles sold, a rise of 16.1 percent over the 376,100 achieved in the same month of last year.
“Our positive trend continued in May and we have posted yet another delivery record,” Christian Klingler, Board Member for Sales and Marketing for the Volkswagen Group and the Volkswagen Passenger Cars brand, commented in Wolfsburg on Today, June 14h.
The brand delivered 792,100 vehicles in the Asia / Pacific region from January to May - an increase of almost 19 percent - of which 714,200 units were handed over to customers in China alone, the largest single market in the world for the German carmaker. Meanwhile, in North America Volkswagen Passenger Cars handed over 194,600 vehicles to customers in the first five months, and you’d be forgiven for thinking things are going to pick up even more with the arrival of the 2012 Beetle and facelifted Tiguan.
The brand reported a noticeable increase in the Central and Eastern Europe region, with deliveries rising 40.2 percent to 71,900 units. The company almost doubled deliveries in the single market of Russia to 34,400 units.
