Opel Tells Us More About the Driver Assistance Functions On the 2015 Opel Astra

Opel hopes the 2015 Astra will be the model that takes the Russelsheim-based manufacturer back on the podium as far as European sales are concerned, so there's no wonder they changed a lot of stuff on the hatchback.

We got up close and personal with the new 2015 Opel Astra a couple of weeks ago, and concluded that Opel's new hatchback suffered notable improvements, that should allow it to fight the likes of VW Golf or Ford Focus.

However, we didn't get to see how it feels like to drive the new Astra, but Opel has that covered as the carmaker released a video and additional info on how the driver assistance systems do their job on the new 2015 Astra.

So without further ado, let's see what Opel says the Astra can deliver in terms of safety and assistance features. By the way, we'll see the car in the metal in Frankfurt, and we'll also tell you more on the spot.

The most interesting feature in our view is the Opel Eye front camera, and Opel shows us the gizmo now has more processing power and a better detection rate. Also, it can use navigation data.

Then there's Opel Astra's Traffic Sign Assist feature, similar to what BMW offers for their models. It basically reads the traffic signs you encounter on your path and displays them for the driver while also comparing data collected by the camera to the info delivered by the navigation system.

Other less spectacular but equally important features include the Advanced Park Assist feature and Rear View Camera with dynamic guidelines, as well as Opel's familiar Side Blind Spot Alert.

“Several generations of Kadett and Astra have brought innovative technologies from the upper class into the affordable compact segment. Each generation has raised the bar in safety, comfort and efficiency. I wanted the new Astra to once again set standards in the compact class," said Opel Group CEO Dr. Karl-Thomas Neumann.
