Opel-Buick Link to Grow Stronger, Says GM
According to Automotive News, the two brands will become even more related as the Detroit-based giants is looking to “squeeze all it can from its costly engineering resources in Germany”. "What we're trying to do is bring together the product development teams much more closely," Akerson said, so that "there will be all sorts of synergies, I believe, between Opel-Vauxhall and Buick."
Buick started selling rebadged Opels back in 2011, when the Opel Insignia became the Buick Regal. The Astra-based Verano and the Mokka-based Encore followed soon after. All three vehicles have siblings sold in China as well.
General Motors lost no less than $1.8 billion (€1.35 billion) in Europe last year, but the company expects a slight improvement in 2013. Total GM loss in Europe since 1999 goes as high as $18 billion (€13.5 billion).
