When it comes to pocket rockets, Opel has decades of small yet fast cars in its portfolio. The latest of the bunch comes in the form of the 2015 Opel Adam Rocks S, a teeny-weeny A-segment hatchback with crossover-like looks that can reach 100 km/h (62 mph) in 8.5 seconds. Yours from just €19,990.
The smaller and slower brother of the 2015 Opel Corsa OPC is true to the pocket rocket mantra due to the turbocharged hamster wheel hiding under the hood. The 1.4-liter ECOTEC Turbo four-banger is good for 150 HP (110 kW) and 220 Nm (162 lb-ft). Vector in a curb weight this side of a mouse and a sportified chassis to get a rather colorful bubble of driving fun.
A thing that defeats the purpose of the Adam Rocks S is the ride height. Lowered by 15 millimeters over the not-so-hot Adam Rocks crossover, the S has all the chances to scrape its sporty front splitter against a curb. But when a vehicle so small can row through six gears up to 210 km/h (130 mph), ground clearance falls back at the bottom of the priorities list.
The 3.75-meter long Opel Adam Rocks S can be enhanced with an optional SwingTop canvas roof. In terms of standard equipment, the highlight is the Opel OnStar suite of goodies, as well as a touchscreen infotainment system that offers 4G / LTE connectivity to the Internet via a Wi-Fi hotspot feature.
But it’s not the performance or the equipment onboard that floats our boat the most. The red-painted bottom section of the steering wheel and red-painted roof with an S specific spoiler is what separates the men from the boys. Despite its furious force-fed engine and dynamic capabilities, the Opel Adam Rocks S promises to drink just 5.9 liters of petrol per 100 kilometers, the equivalent of 47.8 UK miles per gallon.
