OnStar China Gets 1 Million Calls in a Month

Running an operation in a country as large as China does come with a few advantages, but also with some minor inconveniences, especially for those who are not prepared to handle the huge work volume generated by the virtually limitless pool of customers.

Having entered China not long ago, telematics solutions provider OnStar found out, the hard way, that once the Chinese get the taste of something good, they never let it go. So it happens that OnStar appeals to the Chinese in such a degree, that its services have been requested last month more than 1 million times, making May a record period for the service in the Asia country.

The calls came from a customer pool that now, two years after its introduction in China, reached 275,000 subscribers. Most of the requests received involved the Turn-by-Turn Navigation service offered by the American company.

Also last month, OnStar got more than 100,000 real-time on-demand vehicle diagnostics checks, reached some 1 million vehicle diagnosis reports and answered to 2,700 Automatic Crash Responses. Two hundred Chinese needed OnStar's stolen vehicle locator to identify the whereabouts of their cars.

“The 1 millionth customer call milestone demonstrates our customers’ confidence, fondness and faith in OnStar’s services – car owners are recognizing the value we provide them,” said Jon Hyde, General Manager of Shanghai OnStar Telematics Co.

“We will continue to strengthen our leadership in China by launching new and enhanced services in the near future, and provide car owners with a safe and secure driving experience for their peace of mind.”
