The NHTSA sends out word on two recalls from Ohlins Racing AB (Ohlins) regarding certain TTX36 rear shock absorbers and steering dampers. If you are a constant reader of the moto section of autoevolution, you maybe remember that the Ohlins steering dampers have been the subject of at least two recalls in the past. Well, it looks like the story of those accursed brackets is still under development.
Like it was the case before, it looks like Ohlins determined that more steering damper kits might have been assembled with an incorrectly manufactured bracket. The affected brackets may crack, Ohlins says. In case of a crack, at low speeds, the steering damper may lock, leading to personal injury or a crash.

The steering dampers have been sold as both universal kits with part numbers SD 000 through SD 005 and aftermarket add-ons for Yamaha R1, R6, and FZ6, Suzuki TL1000 R and GSX1300R, Honda CB600RR, and Ducati Monster 1000, 748, 848, 916, 996, and 998 motorcycles. Ohlins will contact the customers and supply them with a new bracket free of charge.

The damper rod nut of certain TTX36 shocks may become loose

TTX36 aftermarket rear shock absorbers manufactured November 5, 2013, to February 20, 2015 are being recalled by Ohlins. The nut securing the damper rod may loosen and cause the rear suspension to malfunction.

If this occurs, the riders may experience loss of damping in the rear monoshock. In more extreme cases, the shock itself could disassemble. Both scenarios can result in very severe injuries, and this is why Ohlins is advising the owners to stop riding the motorcycles until the problem is solved.

Qualified technicians will remedy the situation by securing the rod nut, free of charge. Please check the attached PDF file after the jump to check whether your Ohlins shock falls under the riding ban of this recall.
