Nurburgring Subaru Impreza WRX STI Crash Save is a Quick Driving Lesson

Whether disaster just happens to strike or we bring ourselves into such a situation, we can all find ourselves in a scenario where the car around us plays the tete a queque game, threatening to send us into a major “kabang!” finale. Well, the Impreza WRX STI driver in the clip above wouldn’t let something like that happen on his watch.

The man got a little overconfident while aiming to overtake a Suzuki Swift Sport on the Nurburgring over the weekend. A rally-bred machine the STI may be, but the guy just pushed it into oversteer, spinning out of a left-hander, just behind the warm hatch he was attempting to devour.

The Impreza went off on the grass and looked pretty determined to to hit the barrier on the inside of the bend. The driver was forced to take extreme action and while he did avoid kissing the railguard, he ended up spinning the other way, across the track.

Overcorrecting or not, the man saw his STI heading towards the barrier on the other side. The car was basically going backwars on the asphalt, so he stepped on the gas in order to kill the momentum.

Once he lost some speed, he steered the car right back around, jumping from one... line of grip to the other in a well executed J turn.

While we can all learn something from here (besides not causing such mayhem in the first place), we mustn’t forget that such grip play requires quite a bouquet of assets. Basically, you need to have your behind trained in order to feel the car before CO2 hits the fan and you should also be OK with looking out the side or the rear window while steering the car around its center point. Perhaps a bit of sprinkled luck wouldn’t hurt either.
