Nothing Can Prepare You for Seeing the Vision Mercedes-Maybach 6 Concept Live

Yesterday, Renault issued a teaser for its TREZOR concept car saying we should expect a car with "surprising proportions." People say the Vision Mercedes-Maybach 6 Concept read that press release and started laughing histerically.

It laughed so hard, its already "surprising proportions" got even more surprising - to everyone's surprise, who thought nothing could surprise them anymore but, surprisingly, turned out to be wrong. There's just no end to that enormous hood, which should make driving this vehicle an experience similar to that of a cargo ship captain. Granted, a very luxurious cargo ship.

We mentioned Renault's TREZOR a few lines above, and it wasn't by accident. The two cars do share some similarities but placed side by side, the French concept would simply be dwarfed by the outrageous dimensions of the Maybach. Well, not so much the dimensions (the TREZOR is actually 6 millimeters wider), but its sheer massiveness. If the Renault is sleek, this is brutal. The fact its front end resembles a blue whale feeding while dressed in red latex helps with that impression considerably.

The rear end, however, that is the stuff of dreams. There's so much roundness there it hurts, and the taillights integration is just perfect. The only thing that ruins it a little is the model's name: not sure if it's the positioning, the size or the font, but that six looks like it was taken off a wall where it served as a house number.

Like almost any new car these days, the Maybach 6 uses an electric powertrain good for 750 HP (550 kW) and an 80 kWh battery pack. The maximum range of the vehicle is a not too shabby 500 kilometers according to NEDC, and over 200 miles if you ask EPA. Despite its bulkiness, the Maybach 6 can reportedly reach 100 km/h (62 mph) in under four seconds and can go all the way to 250 km/h (155 mph).

Looking at the size of that hood, we'd say a V12 engine would fit nicely in there. On the other hand, if Mercedes-Maybach decided to sell this car, it wouldn't really matter what powered it as long as it offered decent performances. With a few modification to the front end, it would be an instant classic, and we wouldn't be surprised if Daimler could push a limited edition run for astronomical sums of money. We hear they like their Maybachs over in the Middle-East.
