According to an insider from Nissan, the Japanese brand has finished research and development on an all-new engine. It's a turbocharged four-pot displacing only 1.8 liters, but its expected to pack a whopping 266 horsepower and propel the yet-to-be-announced Nismo models of the Qashqai and Pulsar hatchback.
The tipster in question told WorldCarFans that the powerhouse will see its first implementation under the bonnet of the Qashqai crossover. As the motoring website reports, the Nissan Qashqai Nismo will be launched in the first quarter of the following year.
At the present moment it's unknown if the same force-fed mill will be offered on the updated Nissan Juke, but the recently launched Pulsar compact hatch is an almost certain candidate for it. Nissan's general manager and chief marketing manager for crossovers and C-segment products Ponz Pandikuthira revealed a little while back that a Pulsar Nismo is to be expected in the future.
"With 200 PS (147 kW) you are simply no match for the competition. You have to come up with at least 250 PS (184 kW) to seriously come across," the official declared. The Juke Nismo RS' 1.6L DiG-T develops only 218 PS, so the all-new 266 hp 1.8-liter engine will most probably be shoehorned under the hood of the hot hatchback from Nissan.
All in all, this bit of news announces a bit of a performance offensive from the Asian brand, especially when you think that the European C-segment is full of VW Golf GTI, Ford Focus ST, Renault Megane RS and Opel Astra OPC.
